Newly diagnosed
Your child, or you, were told "type 1" in the last few weeks, you have been discharged with pens and a sheet of paper, and nobody has sat with you for an hour. That hour is what the first visit is for.
Sugars all over the place
HbA1c above 8, lows at night, highs after every meal, and a feeling that you are guessing. We look at the actual data, not just the number, and rebuild the plan from the basal dose upwards.
Frequent or frightening hypos
Hypoglycaemia that needs another person's help, or fear of it that keeps glucose deliberately high. Both are treatable, usually with settings and CGM rather than more willpower.

when you come in
A first type 1 visit is deliberately long. You leave with a written plan, not a verbal one.
- Your story and your data. Diagnosis, insulin history, every hypo you can remember, and the glucometer, CGM or app readings you bring. Bring photographs of the app if that is easier.
- Tests, on the spot if needed. HbA1c and anything else due is done at Caspian Diagnostic Centre in the same building, so a second trip across the city is not required.
- A written insulin plan. Basal dose, meal ratios, correction factor, and what to do at the numbers you actually see. On paper, in plain language, in your hand.
- Hypoglycaemia and sick-day rules. Taught, printed, and rehearsed before you leave. Free printable versions are on our resources page.
- Injection technique and site rotation. Checked by the OP nurse, because lumps and wrong angles quietly wreck good doses.
- Food, the Indian way. A dietitian consultation is complimentary with the doctor visit. Carb counting for rice, roti, biryani and festival sweets, not an American exchange list.
- The technology conversation. Whether CGM would help now, and whether a closed-loop pump is worth discussing later. Honest answers either way, including "not yet".
- Review date and a way to reach us. Stable patients are reviewed about every two months. In between, glucose data can be sent by WhatsApp for dose changes.
Please note. Video consultations are not offered. Follow-up between visits is by phone and WhatsApp with your glucose data; the first assessment and any pump start happen in person.

Before you book
What does a type 1 diabetes consultation with Dr. Khizer cost?
The consultation fee is ₹400. Tests, insulin and supplies are billed separately at the published rates of the in-house laboratory and pharmacy. A dietitian consultation is complimentary when taken with any doctor consultation.
Do you see children with type 1 diabetes, or only adults?
Both. Children and teenagers are seen by Dr. Khizer for their diabetes, with Dr. Amreen, consultant paediatrician, available at the same clinic for general paediatric care. Adults who grew up with type 1, and adults diagnosed later in life, are seen in the same OPD.
Our child was diagnosed this week and we are frightened. How soon can we come?
Book the next available slot on Eka Care, or WhatsApp the clinic and say it is a new diagnosis. A newly diagnosed family is given a longer appointment so that insulin, hypoglycaemia and sick-day rules are properly taught rather than rushed. If your child is vomiting, drowsy or breathing fast, go to the nearest hospital emergency department first and come to us after discharge.
Do I need a referral?
No. Book directly, or walk in with a prior appointment fixed by phone.
Is HbA1c done in the clinic?
Yes. Caspian Diagnostic Centre is in the same building, so HbA1c, thyroid and other routine tests can be done on the day of your visit and reviewed at the same appointment or the next day.
Do you prescribe CGM and insulin pumps?
Yes. Continuous glucose monitoring is usually the first step, and for families who want it and for whom it is appropriate, the MiniMed 780G advanced hybrid closed loop pump can be assessed, started and followed up here. Neither is compulsory. Many patients do very well on pens with good coaching, and you will be told honestly which route fits your child and your budget.
We live outside Hyderabad. Is it worth coming?
Families come from across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and further for the first assessment and any pump start, then continue by phone and WhatsApp with glucose data uploaded from home. Video consultations are not offered. Plan the first visit in person and we will set up remote follow-up from there.
Does the clinic admit children with diabetes?
Caspian has inpatient beds with 24-hour nursing and a duty doctor for illnesses that need a short admission but not intensive care, for example a stomach bug with mild ketones that will not settle at home. Severe diabetic ketoacidosis needs an intensive care unit, which Caspian does not have, so those patients are stabilised and referred to a tertiary hospital.
